iMedApps: Use Your Cell Phone But Keep Its Number Private

<ѻýҕl class="mpt-content-deck">— Doximity Dialer customizes what patients see on Caller ID when you call
MedpageToday

Sometimes, it's convenient to use your personal cell phone to return calls from patients and others, particularly when you're on call out of the clinic or hospital. On the other hand, you don't necessarily want everyone you call to have your personal cell phone number.

Doximity Dialer is a new app for clinicians on call that lets you use your cell phone to call patients and others but pick what shows up on the caller ID. You can set the number they see to be your clinic's phone number, the answering service line or any other phone number that makes sense.

A limitation of Doximity Dialer is that there is no "virtual" phone number functionality, like in Google Voice or Skype. So you can't let patients or others call you back on your personal cell phone without disclosing that number.

Likes

  • Straightforward to use
  • Can set different numbers as the "call back" or "caller ID" number and pick which one you want to use with each call
  • Doximity explicitly says on their website that they don't store any recordings of calls made

Dislikes

  • Some issues with call reliability
  • No ability to set up a virtual number that will connect to your cell phone directly

Overall

Doximity Dialer is a handy free app that can be really helpful for clinicians who need to call patients or others but don't necessarily want everyone to have their personal cell phone number.
